I need paper that'll originally be folded, but when the actor unfolds it, it'll crisp and break apart like a leaf..

Just imagine a note being folded into a jar for 20 years :)

Would special paper do the trick?

Yeah. But you need real good ole fashioned rice starch.
It comes as a powder that you have to mix with water.
The stuff for clothing out of the spray can won´t do the trick.

I'll have to look for it, but there was a way to artificially age paper, and get it to look old, brown and break apart when handled. It had to do with treating it with an easily obtained acid.
