Giant Tripod

On the DVD making of special feature of "Missing" the Western by Ron Howard, starring Tommy Lee Jones & Kate Blanchet there is a device that combines 3 ladders into a huge tripod by connecting them at the top where they meet. It's a great idea. The camera operator goes up there and shoots. It let's them get a higher elevation shot in an otherwise flat area.

Any idea what it's called & where to find one?

Re: Giant Tripod

i saw a bunch of these...www.crewpixs.com

excellent site. you can see some freaky rigs there.

half of them are holy ****! and the other half are hmm. how do i go about building that...

depends which day is which half and what sort of mood your in!

i know i can't wait to get my hands on the new bogen hi-hat i'm gonna find some freaky places to use it.

i have a lot of weird places where you can get access and a hi-hat might be the missing piece.

Apparently you think "Hollywood" is all high tech, sometimes, you have to make do to get the shot you need.

Remember, the light is changing, schedule, schedule, schedule, budget, budget, budget.

Re: Giant Tripod

I checked it out, very cool site, thanks Matthew! I might add my shots to it.

Re: Giant Tripod

I saw the 529B Hihat at the DVexpo, and the rep there said "coming soon". I will call Bogen Thursday to check up on it. ;)

Re: Giant Tripod

Might be better to rent a Bucket Truck then put your tripod in the bucket part and send it way up in the air to get your shot. I have seen Film Crews here in Philadelphia do that. Actually the crew I saw, had huge 10,000 watt Arri HMI lights way up in the air in one of those bucket trucks! They also used a crane that you would find on a construction site to hoist some lights way up in the air as well. I think they were using the lights as if they were the sun because they had large sheets of orange gels on them.
