Just discovered this show online. And unfortunately found out that it's not coming back for a second season.

By far this is the best incarnation of GI Joe I've ever seen. I've always thought the characters (and writing) of the Joe mythos were pretty thin. This actually had some teeth, and some really splendid animation. Additionally they turned Cobra into Cobra Industries and gave them a Resident Evil Umbrella-esque make-over. I think it could have been one of the better animation series to hit the air. Too bad it failed (financially).
But usually when I see an animated show that's of this high a quality and that has this many episodes in a single season (26 for a show's first season is just insane), you can usually bet it'll fail. Bad planning overall would be my guess. Even something like Young Justice which has a massive built-in audience and is using voice actors that go all the way back to the 92 Batman Animated Series didn't come out of the gates with 26 episodes. I don't even think Family Guy does a full 24 episodes per season.
After Xmen Evolution had it's uber long 2nd season they ended up having to pair down for the 3rd season and then even further for their final season.
The only high end animated series that I think has been able to survive these kind of production demands while retaining quality is Clone Wars, but I think it's a much cheaper show to produce than most 2D animated shows, as the real costs are upfront. Once you've got all those models created and rigged, then you're really just dealing with asthetics.
Anyway, too bad this one died, but still -- at least there's 26 episodes of it!
