Ghost Rider

the thing is it not ture to the comics zfarm..... it got the concept but its like xmen after that.... I was bored to tears this would h ave been the first movie i walked out of if i didnt have fun making fun of it and tell the kid next to me this sucks.

i never read the comic... i wasnt saying it was to me, i figured with cage being as big of fan as he is he'd try and keep it like the comic.

I went in knowing it was gonna suck and I wasn't dissappointed.

To me this is a classic example of a movie made strictly for the green without any thought of even trying to give the audience a work worth caring about.

This is a movie with a plot for 12 and unders who can handle being slightly scared.

Unfortunately this'll probably do well opening weekend, thus films of this quality will continue to plague us for a long time.

My biggest complaint other than wooden characters and a video game plot is that director Mark Steven Johnson doesn't seem to believe in "time" when it comes to comic book movies. Daredevil essentially takes place in one night... Ghostrider takes place in like 3 days. He becomes Ghostrider, and within minutes he already knows how to whistle for his bike to come to him... then, the next afternoon he's already starting to figure out how to harness his new power, 2 days later he's saved the world(for now). All the good superhero films show us a transformation, even if it's a montage, but this film - overnight he's Ghostrider and automatically knows that he can easily kill demons without any prior knowledge whatsoever.

The other lame think that stood out for me was the fact the bad guys were sooo easy to beat. Their only offensive move against Ghostrider was to choke him. All he had to do was set them on fire which was apparently super easy if they were within 15 feet - which they all smartly allowed themselves to be.

For me this is a forgettable film. Sure hope 300 at Imax makes up for this.

damn my thoughts exacty he kill each bad guy with one blow it was ****ing horrible.

from what I know from a guy who seen 300 he says it a great film if you like overstylized good driection, cgi and lots fighting... but he saw a 3 and half hour cut of it in december... i can't wait

man ghost rider damn i hope i never think about that ever again.. i feel like burning my comics it was so bad....

They should have cast Cage as one of the demons. You know he'd do a great evil character. For a replacement, Timothy Olyphant would probably do a great job. As for the director...most anybody. Myself, perhaps. Hell, the bum down on the street corner.
the bum down on the street corner was actually working on Hannibal Rising at the time.

DareDevil sucked. Electra sucked. X Men sucked. Spiderman sucked. Batman sucked. Superman sucked. It ain't the stories themselves that are the problem, it is the studio. They bring in this big name, that big name, hire this writer, fire him and replace him with someone else, replace the director... now that 5 years has gone by, they are throwing money at it anyways, so just hurry it up, throw more into fx, and hope the crowds don't notice it is a weak story that doesn't resemble the true story anymore.

Obviously, you folks are too young to remember the really awful hero flicks of the 70's and 80's. The Trial of the Incredible Hulk. That was the absolute God-awfulest DareDevil ever. Makes Affleck's adventure look like gold. How about Thor, in the Return of the Incredible Hulk? Anybody remember the several Spidey movies that came out in those days? It was on par with Spidey from the Electric Company, with less plot. Captain America was done a few times, and that was pretty bad too.

All I can say, is I've been dying to see my childhood heros come to the big screen for several decades. They are coming, and not one at a time, but two or three a year. Yes, Electra was pretty weak, but it was also one of the most visually stunning movies I have seen in a long time.

While the film isn't everything I had hoped for, they have done worse.

spiderman has it sucked it has done a good job while its alittle too romanitc at time i think its well done. xmen dont stick to a story line other than the names of the characters... i mean in the credits of 3 jubilee is in it.. where the **** is that lol?superman sucked all of them are dated but the firsdt was neat but they got repetive and stupid batman has done well and is getting a great fresh director and actor at the helm making it better...

the guy who made daredevil made this and i dunno how he keeps a job... this sucked so much ass ....

I'm just hoping that there's some awesome director's cut like there was for Daredevil (haven't seen the Elektra one though) that will make the movie just 1000% better.

Here's my problems with Ghost Rider *possible spoilers*:

1. The CGI effects didn't look finished. It looks like they did the medium detail renders and forgot to add the high details at the end.

2. Nicholas Cage's bird legs really showed in some shots. The guy was absolutely ripped for this movie and made practically everyone in the theatre say "Holy S**t!!!" when the shirtless scene came on. But there were some shots later where he had the Ghost Rider jacket and gloves on and it made his upper body look big and disproportionate to his small lower half. You can't really blame Nicholas Cage for anything, he is a tiny guy after all, but there should be a "WTF!?" going to the costume and cinematography departments.

3. Blackheart.... I played the Marvel Super Heroes game and Marvel vs. Capcom 1&2 and on top of that I've seen some of the comicbook covers over the years and the Blackheart in those looks nothing like the goofy guy in here. Blackheart, to me, has always been that great hulking 12-foot tall demon with the spiky flesh dreadlock things and can melt into the shadows at a moments notice. Yet, in this movie, it's just some goofy guy running around with some awkward CGI effects mapped over his face at times. Why?

4. It tried to be funny. Blade Trinity funny. And let me tell you... Blade Trinity was not funny.

5. Was Johnny Blaze in control of Ghost Rider at all or did he and Ghost Rider share the same objectives? It was never clear because when Ghost Rider popped up, he just blurted out awkward phrases like "Back...To...Hell!" and "You're pi**ing me off!" and just laughing like a maniac. Johnny Blaze didn't say those things, so why does Ghost Rider?

5 part 2. How did he master being Ghost Rider? As was said before, he didn't have control the first time, so how did he get it so quickly?

6. So what exactly did the 1,000 souls do for you? Make you powerful? Why? What did those 1,000 souls do for the devil differently than the millions or billions of souls that came before? What was so decidedly "evil" about them? That part wasn't clear at all.

7. One of the best lines in the whole movie was put at the worst place in the movie. "I'm the only one who can walk walk between both worlds....I'm Ghost Rider" great line, but they put it at the end during the last battle with Blackheart. Johnny is turned over by the girl and she says something like "It's too late! We've gotta run!", then Johnny delivers the line to her.... awkwardness ensues.

It's like at that moment everyone in the audience thought:

"Yeah... thanks there, Johnny... over the span of two hours so far, we weren't exactly sure if you, in fact, were Ghost Rider or not. I personally thought it was someone else entirely, but man, you sure did clear that up for me!"

They could have placed that line anywhere else in the movie but there, but they did.

8. So, what did the old man in the graveyard do to become a Ghost Rider? Loved the character, just would have liked to know a little more about him before he leaves abruptly. Really, that character had some of the best lines in the movie, very well written. But the execution just kind of left you hanging in some parts.

9. Is there anybody that didn't die in this movie? Blackheart killed just about everyone important or even semi-important in the movie.

10. I also thought it was goofy how the demons barely put up a fight against Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider really had some Golden/Silver Age Superman syndrome going on in this movie (just FYI, Golden/Silver Age Superman got boring to readers because he was so invincible and nobody could beat him, so why worry about him?)

11. What happened when Ghost Rider did his whole "Look into my eyes!"- thing? Did they die? Go into a coma? Go straight to Hell? All it looked like was that Ghost Rider blinded them by giving them burnt eyes. That's pretty messed up on its own but come on! What was going on there!?

12. The movie really got boring in some parts, I don't know why either. What didn't help was that my family and I went to see it at the 10:30pm show so we were up late, but we see movies at that time all the time and never had a problem, so something had to be up with the movie.

13. Why wasn't the devil simply called Satan? Why something complicated like Mephistopheles? What a mouthfull!

Things I liked:

1. The cinematography was very apporpriate for this movie (except in cases like #2). Very dark, but not too dark, almost conflicted. Very much like the whole transformation to Ghost Rider dilemma.

2. The point that Johnny Blaze does. He does this big dramatic pointing move that pays off big when he transforms into Ghost Rider. Very nice.

3. The music in some parts was pretty cool. A guilty pleasure is the song that plays towards the end, I forgot the name of it but it's the rocking western-style music. Sure, it's corny, but I liked it and so did some other people I overheard say "If anything, I'll buy the soundtrack". Seriously, somebody said that word-for-word! :)

4. Through all of its faults, the movie was fun. It didn't make you feel bad for seeing it, like the Hulk did, and it didn't make you feel like you had a blast, something like Spiderman did when I saw it for the first time or what Zack Snyder's 300 will do for just about everyone pretty soon :)! At the end, you just felt like "Hmm... that was nice." nothing more, nothing less.

In conclusion,

Bad film? No not really. Good film? No not really. Okay film? Yeah, that's about right. Could have been better had it been given the flexibility of an R rating.

Ok. So most of us agree that this movie sucked. I personally haven't seen it. AND I DON'T INTEND TO.
The problem here is that even though most of us think it sucks or that its going to suck, (hell the other movies the director did sucked, so history tell us this on will also) yet it became the #1 movie as far as ticket sales. (if I'm not mistaken here. I thought I heard that on the news)
And here lies the problem. the Studios will continue making movies that suck if people keep going to see them. I mean #1 movie CMONNN! WTF.
Its bad enough that we have so many stupid people here in America, but those of us who have a little sense to think this is going to suck, why not boycott a movie like this. If people stopped watching these movies, the studios would stop making them. (supply and demand)
Don't mean to offend anyone, but I really like movies and would rather watch something with substance than this movie. So I just wished studios and audiences agreed on putting better product on the big screen. I mean I've seen some great stuff on this forum. I rather see a movie from someone here that was good than a big name actor and a big name director's crap.
just my 2 cents.
