Ghost image of person- real person collides

hey guys

I have a scene in my film where a character is on a huge abandoned highway- there is a girl standing in the middle- he runs to her, but flies right through her because she's semi-transparent- kinda like a ghost. any way of doing this? how would i go about shooting it and mixing with post- thx

Re: Ghost image of person- real person collides

You could either green/blue screen it, or just don't move the camera, shoot one with just the girl, shoot one with just the guy, and overlay the girl one over the guy one, and turn down the opacity.

Re: Ghost image of person- real person collides

Lock off camera. Shoot regular scene and then shoot the girl against black. Layer in FCP and adjust opacity.

If you do like Scott suggests, which is the easiest/best way to do this effect, you may want to matte out everything but the girl, in that plate. Otherwise, dependent on your backgrounds in the shot, your car could look just as transparent as the girl.

If she's against black there's no need to matte. The top layer (the girl) would be set at 75% opacity or whatever look you want. You could also try screen mode. In anycase background would be unaffected.

Sorry, I misread the initial question. If the background is completely black then you wouldn't need to matte anything out.
