Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

If you haven't seen this film, the title alone will probably draw you away from it. And If I tell you forest whitaker plays a samurai, that might draw you furthermore away...

Those were my thoughts before I saw this movie, Forest Whitaker plays a what...? that's what I said. But after seeing this movie about 7 years ago I must say it's one of the most underated underground classics. This film has such an indie feel to it,(in a good way). If you haven't seen this, it's a must see.

Any other Ghost Dog fans out there?

Did I watch the same movie that you guys saw? It was so painfully bad that I had to turn it off about an hour into it. The bad poetry was beyond humorous to me.

You should have stayed for the rest of it! I went in expecting to ,hate it (esp. the title and premise , how rediculous) I thought it was a unique film far better than the rehashing of old films I have seen lately.

I didn't like him at first, but Jim Jarmusch has really been growing on me. I bought Mystery Train on DVD the other day. I think I need to see this one now.

You should really watch the whole thing and then see if you still hate it, but if an hour into it you didn't like it, then maybe it's not your cup of tea Horse... I loved it.

Loved it. Own it. Ghost Dog's exchanges with the ice cream man who doesn't speak english are hilarious and the italian gangster singing along to Public Enemy is priceless.
Not a huge fan of the ending though...

I loved this movie. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

I've enjoyed almost everything of Jarmusch's, that I have seen. With the exception of Mystery Train, which for some reason I have never yet been able to get into.

I bought my first Jarmusch film because of his acting in Blue In The Face. Never heard of him before that...yeah, well, I live a sheltered life.

Anyway. Bought Stranger Than Paradise and I was like wtf?

But I gave him a second chance with Ghost Dog. Loved it.

Then Broken Flowers. Appreciated it, but wasn't wowed.

Then Dead Man. And that's kinda on the fence.

So he's a bit inconsistent with me, but that's ok. I don't expect anyone to hit it out of the park every time. Lynch is the same way with me, as is Cassavetes. Speileberg, too, for that matter.

Agreed, agreed. That guy had the Flavor Flav rap down pretty good! I saw the second half on cable yesterday. Now I gotta get a copy of this and watch the whole thing. (I saw it when it first came out, but my memory is so bad I really don't remember the whole plot.)

Some of the edits don't work for me, like the scene where he's switching the license plates. But overall, it has a nice indy feel to it.
