I use my GH1 for some creative shots for wedding highlights. I deliver all videos in SD DVDs. When I convert all my HD files to 740x480 16:9 to edit video with canon HV30 video(vegas 9) I can see a very very very fine "square" patterns in the the whole video. When I convert the final prodject to 4:3 the pattern appears very small but more noticable on the faces and skin. I noticed this very same thing with my Pen EPL1, but not with my GH2. I shot all GH1 video in AVCHD. Any solutions on why this is happening? I'll try to upload some video on Vimeo later today.
Thanks

It's probably the color sampling.

I wouldn't convert before editing; just edit as-is then render down when you're done. However, when you do that, it may be worth rendering to 16:9, 720x480 uncompressed first, and then rendering that out as the MPEG-2 you'll need for DVD.

David,
Easier for my computer to convert first and edit SD rather than edit in HD. I still get the same results with any HD file converted down to SD 4:3 from the GH1 using Vegas. I did try the uncompressed 16:9 and but the faint square pixel like pattern is there ( I thought uncompress would have been a solution). I also produced a uncompressed 16:9 file from Vegas and loaded it in Premiere Pro and the pattern was still present.
Oh yeah also noticed pattern in MPEG-2.
Thanks
