Getting your movie on DVD question.

So I've got my feature legnth film done and edited. I'm finding that the software that come with Preiere for encoding isn't the best. I'm having synching issues which I was told I'd have. What do most folks do? This isn't an issue with short films of course but I have 1:54 long film. I've been told I need to go to a professional "compressionist". Is this my next step?

Also what do folks typically send to film festivals? Do they spend the money to have it compressed and then send it off or do they send an unsynced minimal quality DVD and after it gets picked up, worry about professional quality then? (ie potential distributors have the understanding that this issue will be cleaned up when the film is picked up and the money comes in.)

How much money am I looking at? Any companies recommended? Is there a poor man's fix just to get it to minimal viewing condition for festivals?

And if anyone is wondering, I've got about 20 Premiere projects with about 40 timelines total that I'm exporting to MPEG-2 DVD and then putting all on a timeline in Encore. (I've looked for a technical solution but haven't been able to figure this out in the editing section of DVXuser.)

Wait, you have 20 projects and 40 timelines that you're compressing? What for? What are all those timelines for? If you're compressing tons of different MPEG-2 files and throwing them into one single timeline in Encore you're just asking for trouble.

If I read you right... you need to consolidate the whole movie into one project. You can do this various ways, but the best way is to import your projects as sequences. Put all your sequences into ONE timeline and encode from there. You can't just dump multiple individual mpeg2's into an authoring program an not expect to have troubles. 154 minutes on a DVD-R or a DVD-DL? 154 minutes on a dvd 5 is too much. The quality will really suffer because you will have to use a very low bit rate for the encoding. I suggest you use a DVD-DL. To get good results you need to start with a good quality encoder and know how to get the most out of it. I have done a lot of encoding over the years, and still do. It can be a tricky process.

I'll give that a try. Actually it is 1 hour 54 minutes not 154 minutes. I have multiple projects because the larger the project became the more time it took to open.
