Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

Here's the deal...

The computer I have and will use to EDIT is my office computer (PENTIUM 4 - dell). I do not have a DVD burner, and to be honest am not even sure if it plays DVD's.

I am getting VEGAS 4.0 for my b-day in Feburary.

1. DO I need the "PLUS DVD" package?

What are my options if I put something together that warrants putting on DVD? My next new computer will have it but it will be sometime before I get a new computer since my current one is totally cool.

2. Where is a place you guys reccomend getting that "Good Deal" on Vegas and how much did you pay?

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

+DVD adds two major features: DVD authoring, and Dolby 5.1 surround-sound encoding. If you intend to make movies and want surround-sound soundtracks, you'll have to get an AC-3 decoder someday.

Seeing as I got a full sealed retail version of Vegas+DVD for $299, it seems silly to get just the regular, non-DVD version. I don't know if my seller has any more though. It was from an ebay auction from ebay seller "softwarestore".

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

Not required but I believe it's cheaper to get it as a package than to add it later. However, if you don't have a burner it won't do you much good. Of course, when you do, then you'll be able to mix and burn 5.1 surround sound to go with those killer images. When I checked on prices it looked like B&H had the best at the time - less than from Sony direct.

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

I gotta third that, John. The added price of +DVD is *less* than that of a separate 5.1 encoder, which you'll need in order to output AC3 audio. Why not get the pretty decent DVD authoring app with it?

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

Well, here's some good news...  at the Student Software Store, you can get it for $250 IF your a student.  BUT, if you aren't you can still get it for $410... quite a bit cheaper than any place I've seen.

BTW, I bought my copy there and they were really quick.  I really recommend them.

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

As long as HE orders it and he shows proof that he is in school, I don't see why it wouldn't work. :) I think your good to go. Also, when you get it you can still register it in YOUR name or company name, because there is absolutely NO difference, it just sold at a discounted price.

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

Right. An academic version doesn't exist. The full version is just sold at a reduced rate to students.

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

I'm sold. Thanks.

It helps me to tell my wife "Hey, look! $250.00!"

I always quote her the MSRP anyway knowing I can find it less than that! ;)

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

Couple thing about Dell computers.
Most of them using chip motherboards, that will have bottle neck in data transfering. If you don't have RAID card most data will go true CPU. So if you decide to put DVD burner in future, be sure it is have burn proof (most of them do).
And if you start burning one in it, well take good breake , it all that dell can handle.
Offcurse Dell making also exeptional nice custom machines, for premium price.

Re: Getting Vegas NEED ADVICE.

That was mostly Greek to me; but I get the jist.

When I do get a new computer I'll have it geared towards my filmaknig fetish.
