Getting the audio attached again

Hey everybody,

I have a project where I deleted the sound connected to the video, because we wanted to use only voice over and music. But now the audio guy wants the audio again, because he wants to use it. How can I attached it again, without searching for the original file with the audio, because that would be a lot of work?

If you created completely new clips that didn't have the audio tracks, then you'll have to manually reconnect.

If on the other hand you edited from clips that had audio, but only brought the video tracks into the sequence, then you can do the following:

Place your playhead over a clip on the timeline,
Press the F key (for match frame), this will load the master clip into the Viewer including the proper In and Out points,
Add only the audio track from the master clip using Overwrite but with the video track input selector disabled (so you only place the audio into the sequence),
Depending on where your playhead was positioned over the clip the new audio track will be out of sync with the video as will be indicated by the red boxes with numbers at the start and end of both the video and audio tracks. Right click on any of these red marks on the audio track and select "Move into sync) and you are done (if your audio tracks were mono and you need more than one audio track to sync, then link the audio tracks in the timeline as a stereo pair - Option + L - before synching with the video track).

You'll have to do that for each clip, but at least you won't have to do manual synching.

Being FCP, I'm sure there are other ways of doing this, but this is the first method that popped into my head.

Thanks a lot for your answer Cools, saves a lot of time all ready! Anyone knows if it is possible to do it with all the clips at once?
