Getting the Anamorphic adapter off

I have read several posts on this. I know keep the screw tight and just unscrew.

I have used my adapter a few times. It was struggle to take off but I got it off before.

But this time it won't come off. I've tried retightening it on and then unscrewing it but it still won't work.

I'm afraid the constant turning to get it off might ruin the threads. Does anyone else have any ideas how to get this thing off?

Day 2... still turning but it's not coming off. >:(

Come one someone's got to know something.

Re: Getting the Anamorphic adapter off

..the screw needs to be tighter.. the screw is what keeps the lense from spinning around the threads, if its not tight,, the lense rotates around the threads (so you can align the lense after tightening it on without untightening the threads) , if its tight.. it holds the lense to the threads so when you turn the lense,, it turns the threads too, and you can unscrew it.. if its slipping,, its simply not tight enough.. you have to take the chance of tightening it more. use a small thin towell in your hand for grip.. dont break it off.. its at your own risk.. next time dont put it on so tight.

Re: Getting the Anamorphic adapter off

Why are there so many issues with is? I have yet to purchase an anamorphic lens but I don't want to be one of the ones that cannot get the thing off either. Why is it made this way? I am guessing that is the only way the lens can be mounted to the camera? If I am on a shoot and I can't get the lens to come off, like Bob here, thats just valuble shooting time wasted and down the drain. Why can't it just screw on to the front like a normal filter would and if need be, be supported by rods? I just hear so many people complain about having problems taking the lens off and worried that they are going to strip the little screws in the process. Is the pain really worth it?

Re: Getting the Anamorphic adapter off

Thank you Iamaloser!

It worked. I thought I had the screw on pretty tight, but I tried your suggestion of tightening it even further and one turn and it popped off.

Thank you!

Re: Getting the Anamorphic adapter off

The thing is that you get pretty aprehensive on tightening such a tiny screw so much and forcing the damn thing. It took me 2 days to make friends with this mechanisim and was hasstled more by this hesitation than by the actual lens. It is a wierd way to go about it but just like the camera clunk, its a sure means of initiation! BTW now I put it on and get it off in no time.

Re: Getting the Anamorphic adapter off

.. the key is, once you have screwed the lense on, and then loosened the screw to level the lense, and retightend the screw to keep the lense in place, you no longer have to loosen the screw.. EVER! it will unscrew(if its tight enough, and if the screw is tight and its unscrewed from that level position, you can just keep the screw tight, and it will thread back on right to that same level position. so after you level the lense once, you can tighten the screw to keep it level , and from then on it will thread on and off right to that same level position. I remebmer Barry Green had mentioned this before as well. so it should only be a one time ordeal unless your mounting it on another camera that happens to have a different thread position.. or if it slips over time. mine never has. :)
