Getting that "film" look?

I am using Vegas (obviously) with the Magic Bullet editor. What are some of the plug-ins that will give me a "film" look? Any tips? I am also shooting with a Canon XL2 and now I know what people mean when they say that it can't seem to produce that "film" look.

try the "bleach bypass" and then mess around with the sliders and buttons.
see what you can come up with, i've gotten some nice looks from it.

all the stock film looks they have aren't going to look the same on every clip you have, so you pretty much have to mess around with them to get the looks you want. But they give you a good headstart.

"Film look" can mean a lot of things. If you mean "cinematic," like what you see at the movies, even that's taken a turn over the last several years from deep saturation to a more contemporary desaturated look.

But until recently, film had a more contrasted, more color-saturated look than video. If that's what you have in mind, then take your footage, apply a Color Curve to it, and then flatten out the lower left of the curve some. If you like, to the same for the upper right -- flatten it against the top a little.

Then, apply a Color Corrector and increase saturation a bit.

The video look that the XL2 provides is getting on my nerves. I bought this camera for making films, not shooting soccer games. Bleh.
