getting telephone receiver sound

I didn't see this on the audio thread, and since I use FCP 4, thought there would be a way to do this, but didn't see thread here either. Want to convert parts of telephone conversation to the way it sounds as it comes out of receiver. In other words, want to cut between someone talking on phone to second party, then do L-cut to second party, with first person's dialogue converted to receiver-type sound as second person listens and prepares to respond.

thanks in advance

There are ways of going into the Audio effects and playing around with different options. I am not sure off hand what will give you that sound but I have heard it before when I was messing around with the effects in FCP.

play around with a really high level compressor and a parametric eq, rolling off the highs and lows, leaving the mids intact

You can use a high pass and a low pass filter together to isolate the mids (which I guess would do the same thing as a notch filter with a wide Q), then you just need to play around with dirtying up the sound. Tiny bit of distortion and compression. I don't remember what audio plugins are in FCP4, but you could use an audio program with a really digital sounding distortion.

I used a roland effects module with a 1bit distortion and a band-pass filter to get a phone effect and it was pretty convincing.
