Getting strange calls lately.

Yeah, a lot from North Carolina, Texas, Houston (281-652-892*). I don't answer them and they only ring 3 times. Just, right now had one from CBS so I thought, ooooh, I'll take that one, but it was dead on the third ring when I picked up. In hindsight, CBS meaning what? Not the TV station I'm sure.

So, as much as I would like to think I'm so much in demand that people from all over the continent just have to talk to me, that's not the case. I'm just a guy in my basement who drinks way too much and does a little CGI.
I'm not a big shot nor a celebrity by any strectch.

So, wtf is up? I thought if CBS wanted to talk to me that bad they'de at least let the phone ring more than 3 ringy-dingys. But it's not the real CBS. Just a bogus title.

I figure my number somehow got pasted somewhere incorrectly ?
Or debt collectors. From the States though? I'm in Canada btw.

Wierd.

I've also noticed my inbox is getting spammed everyday concerning stuff I have only searched on google. Like 'Cooking, prgramming, CGI'.
They offer me jobs for $75/hr with "Hired Now" and all kinds of crap. I junk it all immediatley.

I figure google or Facebook is behind it. Getting searches or info 'tapped' I think. Otherwise, what am I to think?

I just sit here having a beer and do some CG modelling. That's all I do.
Nothing exciting. I've got no money and no stories unless you like hearing about crap I did 30 years ago. Pee off everyone who's calling me.

Straaaaaange.

(I know, more of a rant than a thread, but, jeeeez.)

Had a call while I was typing this. Credit collector in London ON. Wrang 3 times.
I looked up the number on, cough, google, cough.

There ya go. Jeeeez.

No, haha. I've heard that scheme backfired and now it's worse if you subscribe.
Not a huge big deal. Just makes me laugh I guess. But when it's every 10 minutes it can start getting stupid. Why am I getting calls from the States though? Telemarketing? Who knows!

I think it only rings 3 times because they have a bot ringing up the number and if it's answered within 3 rings, it gets transferred to a live receptionist, otherwise the bot continues.

I actually have a cell phone and only immediate friends and family have that number and that's 'never' been a problem. The landline is a joke though. Really not worth paying for imo.

//Chri##..., here's another incoming...right in the middle of this post.

I'm convinced it's Google related, either through 'Search' or 'Facebook' because no one else knows my interest in cooking or programming. I even get 'art' crap now .

It has to be google behind it, or facebook, which is run by google?

No one else would know that. I've been here a few years and you'd have to dig through all my posts to put 2 & 2 together so it's not from here, that I'm 100% sure about.

Friggin google. Hacking info I think.
All of my posts on facebook are 'Friends Only' and I only have 3 friends ( 6 really, but 2 I don't know and never talk to me. I should delete them. They were people like my one friends (who died) daughter and an old GF of someone else) , but, that was before they changed the privacy settings, so maybe it all went public before. Maybe I'll clean up my FB page. I don't like friends who never talk and only watch. I never get that. They aren't my friends anyways, in a nice way. I don't know them, know what I mean?

Yeah, BS corporate stuff. At any rate, haha, it's not working at my end.
Obviously info is leaking out somewhere. Yeah, it's google/facebook, imho.

Maybe your number ended up on a list that got sold around.

Not sure if the laws are the same in Canada or how your DNC list works, but the only way to get them to stop calling is to actually say "put me on your do not call list". Then, make note of them. If they call again, you (here) may be entitled to a penalty from them.

And, signing up on the dnc registry is a good idea (not sure about canada's). I'd say this:

No, haha. I've heard that scheme backfired and now it's worse if you subscribe.

was probably more likely the result of irresponsible clicking of links in people's email or whatever, ending up in the wrong place giving their phone number.

My problem has been with spam... I'm about to lose my most used/important email address to spam, I think (yet another one).

I haven't had problems with telemarketers too much. Of course, I haven't had a land line for almost a decade, so...

I get maybe one every 6 months. Seems to help if you tell 'em it's a cell phone. They immediately stop their pitch. Cell phones are still off-limits as far as I know.

Jaosn

lol. One last post, sorry.

In that vein, Steph, anyone who wants to get in contact with me, who knows me, can do it through dvxuser or my email. It's that simple, right?

Steph, if I see your name pop up, or anyone elses I know, I'll answer it.

re: Jason. Yeah, up here the do not call list was getting sold so things got worse.
I'm getting apparently calls from all over both Canada and the US, I think because of outsourcing. At this point I don't know but thanks for listening and letting me rant a bit. It does get stupid sometimes.
