getting started with essentials

Hello,

I would like to start a thread that could be helpful to beginners like myself.

Just got a DVX, have a decent pc with Adobe Premiere.

The question is this: which accessories are essential for shooting a short art film or documentary?

With $1000-$1500 for tripod, microphone and lighting, how would you break up the budget for maximum effect?

Also, what necessities am I missing? External hard drive, lenses, etc.?

Greatly appreciate your input,

Iglun.

Rent or get items from your community center. I just lost on a bid to a tripod, $700,
so $1000-$2000 isn't going to get you much. You must decide what you want to
do, produce short films, or produce good quality short films.

For good quality you must look at this as a long term investment. I bought $1000
worth of audio equipment and I still don't have my shotgun mic (I had to hand
my son the money for mic, sigh) or my boom pole. I'm also looking to get a backup
for my interior mic.

Do not believe that you can produce a good quality film with cheap audio
equipment. So you must ask yourself, what is my LONG TERM goal. What is
my short term goal.

Go from there.
