I have been answering some PMs lately and I thought I would share the info.
This is a great place to learn about sound, welcome!
First thing I would do is NOT buy anything.... except these books:

I would avoid wireless to start out. When you have the money you should get the correct frequency block for your area. Watch out for changes in the white space, your new wireless mics may be useless in a few months when the FCC changes their rules.
When you are ready to pick something up, I would probably start with a hyper-cardioid, kssm, 12' carbon fiber boom, sony 7506 headphones and good xlr such as remote audio. I would really try to get a mixer and if you can't afford an SD302, get an SD mixpre. If you need to shoot outside add a rycote BBG and furry jammer. It would be nice to have a shotgun and rycote s300 zepplin for use outside instead as you would get better isolation, but that combo costs $900 for the at4073 shotgun + rycote s300 zepplin and should be added later. All Links Below:
Wireless should be added last. You will need g2 systems (two to start) and the stock lavs are crappy, so need to budget at least $200 per g2 to replace the stock mic with countryman emw wired for g2 (or better such as sanken cos-11 or countryman b6).
Blow your budget yet?
