Getting PC to recognize P2 card and camera

Posting this because I was having trouble with this yesterday. Got it to work - this is how I did it.

1. turn on computer
2. pop in p2 card into PCMCIA slot - got to do it so it clicks - windows will make a ding sound
3. should say "mass storage device found"
4. Windows will ask you if it can find a driver for you - do not let Windows find a driver for you - exit out of this!
5. download software from Panasonic store - the driver one
6. install this software - hit next next next -
7. when you get to the screen with different cameras, make sure you check off the P2 driver at the top and hvx200 - have the hvx200 on and connected with the usb out - make sure you have it on usb host mode
8. it should find it all fine
9. reboot

that's how it worked for me.

why would u need to plug the camera in a USB when all u need to do it put your P2 card in a PCMCIA slot?

If you want to install the drivers to recognize the HVX200 through a USB connection, you need to plug it in as eddavid described. If you do that, then any P2 cards in the camera can be accessed as separate drives from Windows when the camera is in USB mode.

If all you want to do is offload P2 cards through a PCMCIA/PCCard slot, then you can skip that step.

Help please. I just purchased a HVX200 and P2 Store. I was able to load the driver for the P2 store but not the camera. When I set the camera to USB Device (I did not see USB Host in the Other menu) and connect to the PC (Win XP), it is not recognized. I tried two computers and two USB cables. I tried connecting the PS Store and camea to two USB ports and to load both drivers but it kept asking me to connect the camera. The camera is recognized when I set to 1394 Host but I cannot play the clips. I assume that if I can load the camera driver, it will provide the software I need to review clips on the PC (right?). Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. David.

Are you putting the camera in MCR mode, and then holding the MCR button down for another two seconds?

That was it. I see it now on page 83 of the owners manual. Thanks.

Another question. How do I view the video on my computer? I thought there was a Panasonic program for managing files. My video card may not be up to actually playing back the files. David.

P2 Viewer will let you view the material.

The video card doesn't play a big part in playing back DVCProHD, it's mostly a question of CPU horsepower.

THoff,

Thank you very much for the P2 Viewer link. It works fine on my machine. Now I need to work out a filing system to be able to find what seem to be "card equivalent" folders on my PC (and backup on a firewire drive). I assume I will eventually store on blu-ray discs long term. David.

P2 Genie can also combine multiple P2 card contents into a single P2 directory structure, so you only need one Virtual P2 Card in P2 Viewer to view any of the clips that P2 Genie copied.

Highly recommended!
