We're building a second floor with a living room, office, etc. And I was told it's good to pipe cat5e cable from the office to the home theater room so as not to rely on wifi for video. So I figured music should not rely on bluetooth or wifi either; a lot of my music is on a hard drive and encoded as flac files, not small mp3s.
I bought an Android media player that's on its way. The problem is that in order to play music, you need to navigate by having the TV on, as far as I know. I'd rather play music without the TV involved.
I'd love to know of a device that will accept ethernet and output optical audio. It would be great if it could enable me to use my Android phone, say, to turn it on and off, etc, while using foobar remote on my phone also and running foobar back on the computer in the office.
How are people playing music files on their stereo without a computer nearby? Should I just get a good bluetooth dac like the Audioengine B1? I see that a lot of stereos today have built-in wifi; I have an older one with no need to replace it. It seems like over wifi, even music could suffer from hiccups. Alternatively, should I place a hard drive with the music on it near the stereo in order to use a usb device that cannot run the distance from the office?
