Getting Jaw Surgery :(

*sighs* Theres alot of things wrong with it at the moment... Something like an open bite, cross bite, and underbite. Or something I don't know what the dentist said, just that I'll have to have my jaw wired shut for 3 months.

Maybe I'll get a good story idea.

Damn that must suck!!

..but hey..if it looks weird....you could make a freaky Sci-fi about a man whos mouth is wired shut forever or suttin...like twilight zone or suttin. :cheesy:

I'm in the same boat as you are right now. Its a serious surgery though so I'm having second thoughts.

You'll have to eat baby food and **** like that.

Nah, I have difficulty talking and chewing food. It's really uncomfortable. It's from a previous orthodontist, who screwed up my braces and retainer. (he just got arrested for laundering money).
But yeah it's a steady diet of MILK and AIR. It might only turn out to be a month though, depends on how fast my jaw is able to heal. I've heard people being wired for 6 months. Which would really blow.
Plus, I'm still a minor which means, my parents will being paying for it!

A friend of mine had his jaw wired shut due to a car accident.
He spent the time drinking ENSURE to get all his vitamins/nutrients, etc.

Make sure you eat(drink) enough.
YOu probably will lose alot of weight, but I think the real danger is in not intaking enough nutrients.

If you want to keep your weight up, I can get you some killer recipies for Gainer Shakes that my buddies and I take to gain in the gym... as much as it will suck not being able to take in solid food, you can keep your weight up if you're smart about it. Peace man, and good luck!

Heh reminds me of my buddy that ran his three-wheeler into the side of a truck someone had parked on the trail on the backside of a small rise. He came flying over the rise and surprise! Lost all the front teath. Had his jaw wired shut for a long time. Got so crazy for real food that he started putting all sorts of things in his blender. Pizza was a favorite. Just hard to drink through a straw, even blended real well... of maybe it was the pepperonis on the pizza...

i'm afraid of having my jaw wired shut. i have one of those clicking jaws where it clicks when i chew. it's only happened real recently, i think it's because i sleep on the side of my face and it may have sorta lodged out of place. if i lay on the other side of my face maybe it'll pop back in place?

Well, there's always the other option to supplement the oral intake.

its SOMETHING goddammit.

about your jaw- that sucks man. but i'm sure you'll come up with a lot of creative ideas.

My stepfather was shot in the jaw and his was wired shut for a while. He ate a lot of soups and liquids. When he talked it was in this extreme mumble but after awhile you start to understand what he was saying.

That's like the only phobia I have, come to think of it.

I haven't puked in years...but I know damn well that if my jaw was wired shut, I'd get a stomach virus.

Yeah, I have a friend who went through the same thing in college. He started with the protein shakes, but went nuts after a while, and started doing the real food in a blender thing. One of his favorite "meals" was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches -- he'd literally make the sandwich first, then throw it in the blender with milk... He got very creative over time. I think he even did lasagne once...

As for talking, he started out using a notepad and writing everything down, but eventually went with the talking through clenched (literally) teeth method, and we just eventually figured out what he was saying...

Hang in there... The results will be worth it.
