Getting into commercial work

I see some older posts on this subject, but I wanted to see if anyone has anything to add or general advice on going about getting more commercial work? Best routes to take, people to contact, etc.

Im sure you've read the existing threads - if not you should as they offer a lot of good advice. Another option when you're starting up in a new area and have few contacts. Find a local photographer who's been in the market for 10-15 years. I guarantee he's getting asked to do video work with the dslr cross overs, he may just be looking for a freelancer to take care of that for him. Do a good job and word gets around.
