I am getting the HVX on Jan (hopefully) - next week my local film club has a DVX training session....

I want to know if there is any advantage/disadvantage getting trained on DVX... even tho I dont have one...

I dont want to be confused with different methodologies/ button layouts/ terminology if they are going to be different... I can obviously filter out irrelavent content... (SD vs HD) but some things get hardwired...

all this coz Barry's HVX book wont come out for a few months... so at least I know how to operate a cam when I get the HVX :)

The HVX is exceptionally DVX-like. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that when you're in tape mode, I think the menus are almost exactly, if not exactly, DVX menus. So anything and everything you learn about a DVX will directly apply to the HVX.

The HVX in incredibly more capable (I just finished the variable-frame-rate section of the book, and it's a little overwhelming what this HVX can do!) but it's like a superset of the DVX. All the DVX stuff applies, but there's more too, so have no fear and learn all about the DVX and all that knowledge will apply to your HVX.

Yes indeed.. in fact, when Evin Grant (evinsky) picked it up and started using it for us during DVExpo west, that was one of his biggest praises, that it behaved just like the DVX.. even in terms of exposure and gamma settings.
