Getting H.264 into Vegas

So I need to get my 264 going... I don't get why all my plug-ins just were there when I upgraded but my Codecs weren't... and obviously I don't remember what folder they go into... help! I want to render some of these gorgeous new toys V8 has...

There are no h.264 plugins. h.264 exists when you press "Render as" your video, and you can select from either Sony AVC or Main Concept.

Guys, no, I don't have it... look

Thanks DJ for coming over...

I just got V8a (179) and I have DVDA 4.04 (166) still... I just installed V8

BTW, this happened to me when I installed V7 too...

I have heard of others who didn't have h.264 in the render screen. They were all using pirated versions of Vegas. Is that the case with you too?

Could explain why there's no Main Concept anything as well...

He does have Raylight or the Raylight Demo installed.

Where did you purchase your copy of Vegas from?

I own it

I got AVC into V7 somehow... I just had to get something into a specific folder or something... I can't remember what though

is it supposed to be under AVI?
Cause I found it there.... I will render an uncompressed under AVI and then drop it in 7 and make a web sized version and the DVD out from it
how does that sould for quality? the render now looks to be coming out very nice
but it is going to take about 40min! :(

BTW in the pirated vegas, a whole bunch of codecs are not "registered" because the people who cracked it, only cracked the main application and not the codecs.

The only thing you can do if you can't make it work, is export in uncompress, or another lossless codec (e.g. Huffyuv after you install it it can be found under AVI) and then use the freeware utility "SUPER" to export in h.264/MP4 like this: http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/images/super-720p.png

An idea would be to UNINSTALL all versions of vegas and only install the latest one.

I am trying to finish a music video so I am worried that Sony will take a few days..
or I might mess something up in the install so I am rendeing lossless and using Vegas 7 to render.... do you think using SUPER instead of V7 would be a better workflow?

Eugenia is saying, use Vegas to do your uncompressed or lossless render and then use SUPER to import the file and render to h.264 -

If in fact this is a legit copy of Vegas, I'd definitely contact Sony for support to help get it fixed. You've got an anomoly that I've never seen in a legit version of the software.
