Hello.

I shoot a lot of footage on my hvx-200 in 720pn mode. i edit in premiere. i oftentimes have to send the footage to local tv stations on a dvd, but i'm not sure on the best way to export it using adobe premiere. what format seems to work best for you guys? should i be shooting in a different camera setting?

thanks for any help you can offer.

Are you sending them a DVD or a Data DVD with files on it?

HD is a file based workflow so the best way is to give the station files they can handle for their workflow. Ask them.

For instances - I supply my Post House uncompressed QT files (720p). They take that into FCP and deliver to the station from an anamorphic master.

my problem is that when i put the video on dvd, it looks choppy and almost like an internet stream... what settings would you use to get quality video on the DVD?

Sorry. I dont do much in the way of DVD authoring so can not be too much help with settings type info.

I do know that when I do encode something , its a bit of a trial and error process.

All the TV Commercials I turn in on DVD come out crispy clear.

Here's how I do it. I export a full res quicktime file to my desktop on my pc from Premiere, then I drag and drop that file to my Mac computer (home network) where I have DVD Studio Pro from the Final Cut Pro package and burn a DVD that plays fine on my DVD Player at home. After I verify it looks good on my home TV set, then I deliver it to the TV Station.

But the TV Station I produce for doesn't broadcast in HD so all the stuff I shoot, edit, and burn is interlaced 4:3 DVCPRO50

Then the TV Station plays the DVD on a DVD Player and burns what I deliver onto a BETA SP tape. Then they use that for broadcast.

Channel 3 CBS is a little different (difficult! oops! did I say that?) They like their stuff delivered on Blueray.

I do remember though sometime within the past 3 months I exported from Premiere directly to Encore and burned the DVD that way. But it's not my norm. I was doing it as a workflow change test. I remember having no trouble.

So if you don't have DVD Studio Pro, the only thing I can recommend is that if you have "Encore" to export directly to it. Then burn.

About your question: "Should I shoot with different camera settings" that all depends in what format the TV station broadcasts in. I always ask them so that I can shoot and edit in the same format.

What do you use to Burn your DVDs? and do you see the problem when playing the file before burning to DVD? or after it's on the DVD?

I have found that the best way to get REALLY good looking dvd's out of premiere is to export an 720p .wmv video at the highest bit rates, and drop that file into windows movie maker, which all computers have, it seems to do a really good job of transcoding .wmv's... if you have the cineform codec, use that instead with MM.
