Getting colors to "POP"

I know color correcting is/ can be a long tedious process and it is something that I want to be really good at with continued practice and trial and error but is there some tips on how I can get colors to pop? I saw a MV that someone posted in the screen grabs section earlier this month and it almost didnt look like it was shot with the DVX camera. I thought for sure he used Magic Bullet to enhance the look and he said all he used in post was FCP color corrector 3 way! I have been fooling around trying to get a similiar look but like I said its something that is not going to come over night I am going to have to keep fooling with it.

The easiest way to do it is to pull up your RGB and tweak the colors to get the desired effect. I shot a short piece of my backyard and blew out the greens in the grass, it gives a nice look. And it's pretty easy.

I am noticing what looks like some minor solorization while I am doing some color correcting in my clips. I have removed all filters to try to see where it could be coming from but I can't locate the problem.
