getting a white background

Guys,

I'm attempting to do a spoof of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhDRVKDcXQo

I was thinking about just doing a green screen, but I'm afraid because I only have limited time to edit it, that I may not be able to tweak it perfectly.

Would it be possible to just put a white sheet or a huge white matte poster board behind the talent to get that desired effect? There would be no whole body shots, just medium to close ups. If the background was lit well enough, and I made sure there were no shadows, would it come out w/ a bright white picture like that?

I really appreciate any input.

Thanks.

btw:
I'll be using a Cannon GL2 (SD)
I have access to light kits and a small studio at my school

I'll be using FCP to edit.

I'm fairly certain that is background like used in photogprahy studios.

Green screening would be overkill for that effect.

Had to do that for a music video I DP'd a few months ago. http://vimeo.com/1966376

We started out with a white studio. Just blast your white background with light - more light than you'll have on your subject. This isn't really something you can correct with FCP (within reason). You need to achieve a white background in camera. Get as much (even) light on your background as possible and then white balance to it. Then light your subject.

I had my gaffer throw up 10 2k banks on the walls and then lit the talent from overhead. You won't need that many banks on the walls if all you're doing is something like that video.

A trick to making sure you light the background even (which will make it a nice solid color) is to have your talent leave the frame, turn your Zebras on and turn them way up until the Zebras cover your entire background, then click it down a notch or two. If the zebras disappear within at least 1-2 clicks, your background is lit pretty evenly, if not...look at the zebra pattern again and see where you can shift things. Then go back and see again. It'll become a different story when you get talent in there but to make things easier, try and get a bigger back ground and have the talent as far away from it as possible...
