Getting a video ready for MTV - How?

Hi,

So I made a music video for a band recently, ultra low budget and gave it to them as a video file to put online. Turns out through some turn of events it got sent to MTV and might get on their schedule, unlikely, but there's a possibility.

I know that MTV will need it as Digibeta and I know there's all these codes and things that you need to have, but apart from that I'm literally clueless what to do. I wonder if anyone might be able to give me advice.

As it stands I have the files on computer and don't know where to go next, my ultimate goal is to have a tape to hand over to MTV and that's that.

Thanks!,

they require music vodeos for rotation to come from record lables themselves but they are like most other networks:
one minute of bars/tone. 8 seconds of slate, 2 seconds of black with show starting at 1:00:00:00

They require the whole thing to have color bars intercut with the footage, and if possible they like beeps to interrupt the actual song. It gives it that air of professionalism that you can only get late at night when you're annoyed with your project and decide it's time to MST3K the living daylights out of it. ;)

Right, I see, thanks a lot for the advice that's really interesting.

However, I have no idea how to add any of that stuff. I have the video file on the PC, if I were to take said file on a DVD data disk to a Post-production place and ask them to put it on digibeta, would they be able to add all this extra stuff or is it something I need to prepare first?

they can do it. Just give em the run down I stated. Don't let em add tone or "beeps" as the post above yours states. That'll just get it thrown in the trash.
again tho, they only accept submissions of music videos from lables themselves.
It was the same way when I was working for CMT.
I have submitted several pilots to MTV. It's as easy as getting a release form from em and sending it in with your pilot. You'd have a better chance of getting your material viewed by em doing this way as tapes that come in from viewers without release forms are never even opened.
