Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

I'm new to 6.5, having only used consumer end software. I'm trying to make my image either B&W or Sepia. I tried playing with the color values, but it looks like crap. Is there a filter I'm missing? Thanks

You need to set the "saturation" to it's lowest level. Playing with the individual colors won't allow you to get black and white.

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

Jeez I feel like an idiot, but I have more questions. In my copy of 6.5 it shows "Saturation" as an obsolete effect. So if you have another suggestion that would be great. I am having more luck playing with the sliders, but it still looks like crap. I guess I am used to the low rent still software where you just click on the "Black and White" effect and it changes everything.

The other question I had is about enabling the effect. It works while the first frame is up, but once I hit play, it reverts back to original image. Before you think me monumentally ignorant, I USED to know how to do that, but it's been a while and I can't seem to figure it out.

Thanks again

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

Hmmm, not sure why saturation is disabled. It's a while since I used 6.5 and I thought there was an actual black and white effect. You might want to check.

The reason you are not seeing the effect when you hit play is because you need to render it first.

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

I thought there was a B+W filter in the video section back in 6.5, Yep under the video tab, image control, Black & White. In fact there should be quicktime effects as well and that has both Sepia and B+W

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

Wow, that works great. I feel like I'm in a house that looks kind of familiar, but I can't quite find my way around.

So there's no way to preview an effect without rendering it?

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

I think you'll get a single frame rendered just after you place the effect, any scrubbing of the timeline however requires rendering. PPRO 1.5 is worth every penny, that is if you have enough pennies. $199.00 upgrade, that would actually be 19900 pennies :P

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

I may do that, but I'm wondering if after effects would be a better investment. Decisions, decisions...

Re: Getting a sepia/B&W look in 6.5

My advice would be to get Premiere Pro 1.5. It's rewritten from the ground up, comes with a bunch of After Effects plugins, fully supports the DVX with 24pa and, after using it for a while now, I'd never go back to 6.5
