Getting a location

I plan on shooting a short soon. Which requires a small apartment. Problem is.. I don't know anyone who has an apartment... nor do I own one. I realize you write to what you can realistically make. My story orginally took place in a house, but I realized to fit a larger range of actors an apartment is safer. Also, (Ashamedly) I still live with my parents, and they're not cool with the idea of strangers coming to the house. Which is #2 reason why I can't shoot in my house.

So... if anyone has any ideas... I was thinking about asking an apartment complex to let me rent one of their models for 2 days, but I'm not sure if thats a realistic shooting location.

Find a super in a building that isn't too upscale and offer him $50.00 for the day. If the building has a vacancy they might take you up on it. Also, it will most likely be unfurnihsed, not sure if that works for the story or not.

If that doesn't work try craig's list and ask for an apartment location for # days starting on #/#/06 and how much you would be offering. My guess is at least $100/day.

Model apartments or model homes are good choices. You should be able to find someone to rent you one for a day or two on the cheap (make it clear this isn't an adult film).

Another option that has worked good for me on a number of occassions if to shoot in a nice hotel room, maybe something upscale where they have suites, so you have more than one room. We usually pay about $150-200 a night for such a place in Phoenix.

if you were good friends with a realtor...a show home would do you well

a modular home or a trailer (double wide)...however the above apartment ideas should work. your neighbors or friends won't lend you a house to use?

Ashamed??? WHY?? ROCK ON WITH LIVING WITH YOUR PARENTS! I still live with my parents and it's all good. Free rent, utilities, and food? Only an idiot will turn down FREE. Due to living with my parents, I've been able to save up 15k in equipment, not something I could have done when working project to project. I believe you should only move out when you can comfortably afford the change. BTW, I'm looking to move out, but let me clearly state that the reason I'm moving is because I work 2 fulltime post-production jobs and cant afford the 2 hours of drive time. Don't be pressured to move out.

Anyways, to your problem. An apartment location is not that hard. There are millions of apartments out there. It's all a numbers game. Ask as many people through internet or in person to barrow their place and eventually you'll get one.
