Getting a Load of Film Equipment to the Airport, on a budget...

Hi All,

So on Wednesday I'm flying to Japan with what may be 6 or 7 bags of equipment. Since I don't have friends available on a weekday to drive me to the airport, what are some options other filmmakers use to get their gear to the airport in a cost-effective manner and without breaking their backs?

I was thinking long term parking, but then there's getting the equipment to the shuttle, from the shuttle, etc.

Any ideas? Thanks, all!

Well they need to fit like 7 people before heading over to the airport, right? I need like half the van pretty much.

Do you know if the airline will even let you check that many bags? I think there is a limit of 3 or 4 checked bags, and those last two are (on some airlines) $100 each. Definitely check with the airline if you haven't already.

Good point. It may be more cost effective to ship everything via fedex.

Fedex to Japan? Whew, would it be less than the 50 bucks an extra bag would cost? We're talking 30 pound packages needing 2nd day delivery.

How do I get a press pass and what can that do for me for airline travel?

Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions!

They rarely have more than 3 or 4 people in my experience... tell 'em you have a lot of stuff, at worst they'll charge you for an extra person or two.
