getting 16x9 from letterbox

If I shot my footage using letterbox (dvx100b) what do I have to do in PP2 to get the true 16x9. I'm new to premiere.

You can't. Letterbox is 4:3 with black bars on top and bottom so your pixel aspect ratio is .9, not 1.2 like true 16:9. Your only option is to scale the footage up in a widescreen timeline, but that probably won't look very good.

scaling is what I've done in the past as well - it depends on your end product. if it's going to web or even DVD, it'll look OK (not great of course, but decent enough if you're only showing it on consumer tv's and such)
scale footage by 134%

I did this with Red Giant Software's Instant HD. Worked pretty well. I upscaled to 720p (from my 4:3 letterboxed master), cropping off the letterbox bars, and then output to 16:9 dvd from there. I don't notice a difference on a 4:3 TV (since it appears letterboxed anyway), but on an HDTV it definitely looks sharper.

When you use Instant HD, do you use it in a New project with settings that you are scaling to?

Thanx.

I am trying to get Instant HD to make some SD media into Anamorphic 16:9. (720p)

Not having much luck with finding a project setting. Probably a Premiere project setting thing that I need to figure out.
