Get Smart (trailer link)

I've personally been disappointed by Steve Carell's post-The 40-Year-Old Virgin movie choices. Evan Almighty and this both seem very generic and not befitting of a comedian as clever and unique as him. He's a great talent and deserves more than inoffensive, goofy pap.

I completely agree eyesotope. If you look at all these future projects of his on imdb, there isn't much to get excited about. I'm thinking Dan in Real Life might be the only one that seems promising.

Steve Carell is hilarious, but the only movies that work for him are the ones where there is a solid, poignant story in there. By the look of the Get Smart trailer...I'm guessing there will be a funny gag here and nothin else. Just look at the credits of the writer and it tells me everything I need to know. Failure to Launch anyone?

There was a reason Get Smart was a 1/2 hour sitcom and not a movie.
 
I saw the trailer for Dan in Real Life recently. It seems, if not intelligent or thought-provoking, moderately charming and well-acted. At least it will be better than Evan Almighty (Acts of Random Kindness... ugh!).
 
I'm not a fan of these kind of "remakes" but this looks better that I thought when I read the thread title. Too bad they didn't get Buck Henry involved.

Ah, but there was a movie...The Nude Bomb...not that it was any good, so I guess your point still stands. :)
