-Get Rich Or Die Trying-

Some of you may remember my "Everything that is wrong with this world" thread. Which detailed the lyrics of one of the most worthless songs I have ever encountered. 50 cent has much of this sensless drek in his music.

Also, I'd like to point out the title of the film "Get Rich, or Die Trying" Basically, anyone who says that 50 cent raps out of creative expression has been officially proven wrong. The title says it all, he's doing it to make money. That's his perogative.

Oh most definitely it's about money. I'm just saying take it for what it's worth. Don't listen to his music to get enlightened because you will be disappointed

i listen for the beats.

Yes, good beats. So maybe a cardboard cutout with a gold chain just rapping in gibberish because the lyrics don't really matter. I think that's the ticket. I'd better give Dre a call...

EDIT:

"I shot a man in Reno. Just to watch him die."

Now that's gangsta!

You know, I was at the theater and saw a poster for "Get Rich or Die Tryin". I got really upset. Being half African-American (though I make it a point to correct people and label myself American), I am ashamed that this is what is sold to the black people of our nation. There have been a lot of really inciteful posts in this thread, and it has been great readin' them. This movie is just an exploitation of a lifestyle that is unrealisitic. Instead of George Washington Carver, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Colin Powell, we get 50 (fiddy)Cent, Dre, and a mess of other crap artists for our young black Americans to look up to.

Martin Luther King would be ashamed of the state of America today. Blacks are politicized and used, whilst we are fed government subsidies that do nothing but unmotivate. Blacks who speak out against this like Bill Cosby are labeled as Uncle Toms and cast aside, while other "Black" opinion leaders do nothing but take us blacks away from where we want to be and what we CAN be.

On the music, what happened? We get blues, the start of rock and roll, we get Hendrix (though I don't think he is a role model necessarily, but his message was most definitely NOT about materialism), and then......NWO, Public Enemy, and others. At least early rap had direction and grew out of hostilities and inequality. Now rap has NO meaning, NO talent, and sells black people---Americans---this idea that money is everything. What a shame.

While I do agree with you on most of your points I do have to say that I don't feel that this is being sold to black people. The truth is that I don't have to watch a movie to see black nor do most people. This movie is clearly made for everyone that isn't black and isn't around black people. It's the same reason I watched 90210 because it's something different. You are correct in it being an exploitation of a lifestyle , but most movies are. I go back to Mafia movies if that isn't a Huge exploitation of a lifestyle then I don't know what is. I just think that as an African American or whatever Politically Term I should call myself that we to often look for the exploitation of our people and not of people in general. As people we have textbooks with inaccurate information in them so what makes us believe that our movies would be anymore accurate. Most movies just aren't fully accurate. If that were the case then there wouldn't be sound in explosions in space nor would shotgun blast blow the target across the room without the shooter moving

"Paramount's research told us that it was drawing a primarily young male crowd"
