I saw on the news that Mars will be making its closest path to the Earth in 60,000 years. It will be the size of our moon, when our moon is a full moon.

Did some checking:

Seems like it is going to be one hell of an interesting night.

We should get a bunch of people who are able to get good shots of it and do a video collage of sorts.
Dude, what you bin drinkin'?

Mars the size of the full moon - physically impossible (unless we are on an almost-collision course with the planet). And those links? They are from two years ago...

You are spending too much time making movies...

Balderdash. This will not be Mar's closest approach in the last 60,000 years--that was the last approach a couple of years ago. If you ever see Mars looking as big as a full moon, then congratulations!, you'll be on your journey to become the first man on Mars.

It will look like a bright reddish point of light--as always. :) On the DVX, it will look like a stuck pixel.

It's a fraud. This is one of those internet things that's been getting passed around. The "closest pass" was as Horse said, a couple of years ago.

Well that sucks. That's what they said on the local news. I figured there may be some atmospheric conditions to magnify it.

Of course I know it wouldn't be THAT close, other wise I would be on my way to LA to pay a visit to Pamela Anderson, with a case of Dewars in tha back seat.

That goes to show you what watching the local WV news stations will do.

Damn. I thought it was gonna be awsome.

I've heard they were slow over there, but I had no idea...

It's probably some hot shot TV producer pulling jokes on WV locals

Hey - is that true that the word 'toothbrush' was invented in WV?

Actually, it was the weather guy, and what he NEGLECTED to mention was that a low power tele it will look the size of the moon.

No, toothbrush was not invented here. That would involve two things:

Teeth and Hygene.

And I am a transplant. I was born and pretty much raised in South Park, PA.

thats pretty funny, my initial reaction before i clicked the links was "holy f*ck!" then i thought about that a second..."huh?"

I just realized that I have every Mod and Power player posted in here. Now all I need is Jarred to add to the humiliation.

I always heard it was in Tennessee, 'cause anywhere else it would have been called "teethbrush".

AND LET THE WV CHARACTERATIONS BEGIN!

*ducks and runs for cover*

You stole my punchline!

OTOH, I come from a place where 'when they give Earth an enema, it will be somewhere in that neighborhood', so I should have no punchlines...

Shouldn't that be CHARACTERIZATIONS? Only being from WV gives you an excuse!

I drove through it once (well... my wife did, and she got a ticket... but that's another story). It is really beautiful. How is that for characterization?
