"Gerry" theories, anyone seen this?

So what films do you go see? (Besides the rentals I mean)

And do you always talk like this?

"Nope" "Yep" or are you just being friendly?

I will see anything that interests me. I will see a lot of the big hollywood movies that come out, just because you have to.

Yep, I always talk like this.

Don't flatter yourself DOC.

And what's with your lame 'Grade Points' on the person's submissions in the Grabs area? Your this close.

If I wanted to give letter grades to clips, shouldn't I be able to do it?

P.S.
I didn't give them Fs.

C stands for Average.

The only thing you seem to be grading is on peoples nerves. Would you appreciate:

"a Letter" when submitting work for review? Is it too much to ask you spend a moment or so offering a bit of insight on why you may find it average? Liking a work or not, we tend to offer our reasons so the filmmakers can have some feedback and insight into what may or may not be working to a broad audience.

Really. You just don't seem to fit in around here; why hang out? Are you that unwilling to be a part of the community or are just playing it aloof? You're not making many friends here.

If you submitted your work and everyone came back with a C, B, D, or B - is that fair to you? Wouldn't you want to some feedback on why a C was thrown down?

Come on man. Start at least blending in or go away please.

YouDon'tGetIt/D.O.C./Coltrain,

You put alot of time into this "Gerry" thread so obviously you like to talk about movies and how the effect you.

We are all filmmakers here. Whether you want to hate us all or not, there still is a common respect for each other's efforts to learn and create. We are all trying to better ourselves and share in our experiences. That's why you come here isn't it?

So if you would just put 1/3 as much effort into posting about our movies then there wouldn't be an issue. Even if you hate them all, at least give a good reason like you did in this thread.

Just posting a letter grade, while a bit comedic (at first), I think is in a way rude because it's worse than posting nothing because there is nothing there to learn from there. If you have a lot of film knowledge why not share some of it? Otherwise what's the point of being on a forum?

Ebert gives a thumbs up or down, sure, but he also does a full-out review. Why not do a "C: lighting and editing were bad, actors and story was good". Even that would be a great improvement.

Anyone else seen GERRY yet? :cheesy: or am I gonna just have to assume I am nuts for trying to make something more out of this flick?

I TiVo'd it last night and plan on checking it out this weekend with new eyes.......
I will give my open and non-judgemental opinion soon on your theories.
Thanks.

Just finished it. Was tempted to fast forward a few times but refrained. I must say I totally agree with your theories. I feel that Affleck was the weaker part of Gerry's soul and not until Damon killed this "doubt" did he find his way to the road to be saved. Looking at the movie as a cinematographer it was amazing. Killer steadicam shots and some cool time-lapse. Looking at it as an editor it was painful. Cut! Transition! Cutaway! Something please....
The only part I can't figure out is when they are talking and they keep using the word Gerry as a verb or adjective. Is that just Damon improving and Van Zant just decided to leave it in or does that mean something.
Lyon's Den - thanks for your insight. I do not think I would have caught that on a casual viewing of this film.
JH - It does not surprise me that they do not have this film at BB in San Diego. I bet they have plenty of copies of The Fast and the Furious or Torque though......
