German "Safety" Film

Re: German "Safety" Film

Wow. Who thought the Germans could make killing fun all over again?

That shot of the double amputee sorting nuts at the end is classic though.

Re: German "Safety" Film

That was outrageously awesome, but -- RWM, can you weigh in on this -- is there anything "typical" about it, from a German perspective? I ask because when we were doing videogames that featured killing, that was a strict "no-no" for the German market. In Command & Conquer, we had individual infantrymen on the field, and when they got shot they'd collapse and spill red blood all over the field. But for the German release that was patently not allowed -- we had to eliminate all traces of blood and all reference to human killing. So we had to make the infantrymen "robots"... when they got shot they leaked "oil"... when a tank ran over them, instead of a squishy sound we had to substitute in a metal crunching sound...

That was only a few years ago -- have things changed? Just curious.

Re: German "Safety" Film

Barry, typical are the millions of safety-appointment here in Germany.  Everywhere you can see, read or watch safety-signs or movies in the style like “Gabelstaplerfahrer Klaus” (but not as a 70’s comedy) ;D That’s why I mean typical.

About the “no-no” for blood in games or movies, nothing has changed and in my opinion, that’s really really good! We have enough of blood and death all around us, in any country. It’s ok to show (in a game or movie) that someone kill another one but why they have to show it in detail, slowmo again and again?

That is a point, we are joking in Europe (not only in Germany) often about the US (sorry) ;D. In the US you can show the hardest stuff (killing, disaster, war, accident) on the TV with any details but if you show blank female nipples, the whole nation is shocked (LaToya). It’s really funny and I’m asking me all the time, what is closer to normal in the 21th century?  Killing  or a naked human body?

Argh, my English is so pure but I hope you understand my answers…

RWM - You're right about U.S. tv, they routinely show violence without batting an eye, but nudity.... oh we must have little pixel blocks covering the good bits or who knows what would happen???? I've been to Austria about four times and the Austrian and German tv stations I've seen are definitely not uptight about showing some skin!!! I love it over there!
