I was watching a show that features shorts and I ran into this little gem made by some USC film students. It's 5 years old so I assume most have seen it. [Shot on 35]
I just loved this thing! It was smart, witty, fast, extremely well done and brilliantly acted by the lead. My only complaint was it was too short - Pretty rare for a short to be too short. @ 8 minutes I firmly believe they could have held it together for double that.
At one point you could watch it online but now it's only available for an absurd purchase price. $30 - $40
So I took a look see on the net to get the low down on it. Got rave reviews including from Mr. Lucas himself who now owns the original poster made for the Toronto Film Festival
The way this was shot was perfect. The Lead actor, a spitting image to a young Lucas was utterly fantastic. His comic timing & delivery rocked. ;D
I checked to see what these talented kids have been up to the last five years. With this kind of talent I was expecting some big things.... Nada - They all but vaporized. The producers went on to work a ton but that's it. The director did some POS teen flick for Disney last year but that's it in half a decade. The lead, Martin Hynes, did the story for "Stealing Harvard" so that's something but again. that's it in 5 years.
How could a bunch of talent like this that clearly had filmmaking aspirations [USC is arguably the best film school on the block and very difficult to get into] just disappear? Breaks my heart. :'(
