Im researching geography as a theme in film & theatre
Does anyone know any plays or films with scenes involving
eg.
-Travelling between places
-Scenes that take place at Checkpoints?
-Differences between laws in different countries
What about Midnight Express, Brokedown Palace, the Way Back Home (Ed Harris, can't remember if that's the right title). True Grit (2010). Westerns and roadmovies would probably be good for this theme.
A favourite type of movie of mine is one that concentrates on the passage through different geographical locations. Some of the first that come to mind:
L'Avventura
Alice in the Cities
The Bourne Identity
Anna's Meetings
Leningrad Cowboys go America
Gerry
The Brown Bunny
The Passenger
Eden is West
Incendies
After initial research of the suggestions I'll be looking much closer into
L'Avventura/ No Country for Old Men/ The Passenger/ The Sheltering Sky
Babel & North by Northwest I've seen but needed to be reminded of them, both relevant
If any of you have anymore don't hesitate to add them as its all very helpful to me
Thanks again
Orson Welles is directs (or stars in) a number of good films that are about travel or are interesting geographically:
A Touch of Evil The Lady from Shanghai Chimes at Midnight and The Trial: Not about travel per se, but very interesting uses of space. The Third Man
Also: Alphaville
Hiroshima mon Amour
The Puffy Chair
