Genus matte box - Bad design?

I am hoping to be wrong here but I just received a Genus matte box and I am completely confused about the design of their PV mattebox. take a look at this picture i took

If the goal of the mattebox is to protect your lens from the light, look at the space between the 2 filter holders (imagine you are shooting at noon on a sunny day with a filter in there) I just don't understand this :)

Am I wrong? Thank you for your opinion on that and please tell me that I am wrong before I send back this Mattebox right away :)

Did you ever get this sorted out? I'm looking at the same matte box. If they didn't give you a fix, has the gap proved problematic in everyday use?

I have this same mattebox. I noticed the gap. I haven't had any other besides the RedRock so I didn't think that much of it but that gap is there. I like this matte box a lot. I like the nuns knickers and I like that it's so extremely light. I'd be very interested in what this baffle is because I have the same thing.

Is the gap on the sides as well as the top? I'm thinking an adhesive velco (the soft sort) strip on the inside on the top side of the trays may 'seal' it better.

I sent back the mattebox for repair after an exchange of emails with their support. Great support by the way. They added a piece in between the 2 trays to significantly reduce the gap. And it looks great now.

I do like the mattebox too, it's small and very light.

I don't see as big a gap on the sides but the top on mine is just as pictured in that shot. Maybe just one strip on the fixed tray. Something like that?
