generator question

In about six months, I will be shooting a short film that requires many night scenes, and many of the locations are in open fields where no electricity is present. We have the budget to rent a 10kw tener and a generator as well, but how powerful of a generator will we need (to use just one 10kw fresnal) and approximently how much do you think it would cost to rent? Thanks!

Re: generator question

Look into construction generators that you can have delivered to a site for a few hundred bucks (plus insurance, and maybe a deposit) that are 400 to 600 amps. In my experience, you never get the full 10k from a 10k generator, so your going to need some extra amps. The problem with the construction generators is that they are loud, and you have to make sure you have the right connectors, breakout boxes etc.

Re: generator question

Hmm, but if my mathematics are correct, a 10kw light should need only about 84 amps (+some more to be safe). (10000/120) unless i'm missing something big about my assumption that voltage will be 120V, which I probably am.
