Have you ever saw those construction lights that's attached to a generator. I have a music video shoot in a open area. I was thinking about using one. I know I have to diffuse it somehow. Just wanna know your thoughts and how would you set it up.

Are you talking about something like this?

never used them, but one question, are you recording audio or is just image to then sync? because those generators are usually loud.

How do you want the end image to look. will it be daylight or nightime? because i don't think they will be of use in daylight. If it is at nightime do you want it tolook like moonlight? or just blast light onto the musicians?.
Other problem that I see is using some gels for color correction the tugsten(I guess) color of those worklights cause you would lose some stops of lights.

If they are not really pricey give them a try, and set them with some kind of difussion (shine the through some kind of silk). I would look for HMIs for this kind of outdoor setups you won't have to gel them and they will be more powerfull.

hopefully someone will chime in and give you a better answer.
Well, just my 2cents.

Exactly what I'm talking about. This will be a dusk/night time shoot. I just want to blast the light on the talent. I have access to one free of charge. I can manage the noise of the generator to do whatever I want. Actually I heard it running and it wasn't bad at all. Thanks for your opinion anymore I would gladly appreciate it....

My playback speaker would drown it out. I don't think it will interfere with syncing in post. If I can find better I will do it (meaning budget). Just wanted to see what thoughts people have on them. Thanks!
