Does anyone know of any general purpose gel kits to get me started that are not too expensive (can I do it for $100??) and will give me a good selection of tools to work with? Barring a kit, what color gels make for a good starter kit, and do you have a favorite brand?
Lee makes some 12"x12" gel packs that aren't bad. You could get the Master Location and Color Effects pack for under $100 easy. I've got a couple of them although I can't remember which ones at the moment. You can also try asking around at local TV stations and studios for gel scraps--they typically throw out lots of gels.
