General Error Makes me want to throw my HD throw the monitor!

Hey everyone, so I'm trying to edit a 1920 x 1080 Pro Res 422 (HQ) sequence and not matter what I do, I consistently get a general error during playback. It should be noted that the project and all it's attributed files sit on an 2TB external drive hooked up via FW800. It makes no sense, and is unbelievably frustrating that Apple would have something soooo generic with no specificity to even know where to start addressing the problem. Tried trashing prefs, tried reconnecting media, tried render manager, tried exporting an XML... still happening...

What do I do?!

General Error

Sean,

I get this sometimes when I am going alot of cutting and pasting and it seams that part of the timeline just gets corrupt or there is a transition that causes the problem. I use the hunt and peck method. I use the In and Out points and expand them gradually until I find the area that is causing the general error. Once I have it nailed down, I will cut out the offending transition and stretch the footage before the transition back to fill the space. This normally fixes it. Good luck.

Thanks CA video I've had that happen before too, but usually it's only a one clip thats causing the issue, this is definitely multiple clips that won't play...

ProRes HQ playing back on a firewire 800 drive? That's pushing it. The data rate for HQ is pretty high, and FW800 is limited. eSATA would be better, or internal SATA. I'd be shocked if you got good performance with that drive and that codec. ProREs 422, yes. HQ? No way.

You need faster drives...well, a faster drive connection. eSATA, or internal sata.
