General computer Q

I was wanting to take the harddrive out of one PC and use it as a secondary drive on another computer. Can I just take the one drive out, put it in a new computer as the D drive (slaved) and then simply access whatever I want from the drive? Or is it more complicated than that? Are there formatting issues? They both are using the same version of Windows. Basically I just want to condense space by getting rid of one of the computer boxes, but I'd like to keep and have access to all of the information that's on the older computer.

Thanks!

If it's a new enough drive using SATA you don't even need to change the jumpers. But yes, it's that simple.

is it connected by a gray ribbon or a small cable? If small cable its sata, if gray ribben its IDE. Each sata drive needs it's own port. 2 IDE drives can fit on each IDE port. If IDE use a cable that had 3 connectors. One connects to the mobo, one to the slave drive, and the other end to the master. Be sure to set the slave and master jumpers on both drives. The existing drive may not be set right. If you have an extra IDE port you can just plug it in on its own.

If its sata just plug the sata wire into the port and the drive.

in both cases you need to power it with the correct connector.
