Gels and Organization

What's the coolest/most efficient way you have ever seen gels organized? Share how you store your gels or the most impressive organization method you have seen on a set.

We actually discussed this on set yesterday. Someone mentioned PVC pipe setup with the gel rolls on them. Sounded good to me.

I also roll them up in a large tube.
i also have one of those large adjustable art tubes.. for artwork. Im going to be using that from now on.
Its adjustable for various sizes and sturdy.

I carry a large variety of sheets in one of those commercial gel roll things (mine is by Cinebags, I think). It rolls out flat for easy access and closes securely. Not the coolest method, mind you, but it works.

I was thinking something along the lines of a tripple whole punch through the gels and store them in a binder with a tab on the end of each one labelin it. Burnt idea or a good one?

Then you can only have one size of gel though...It would work for s4's and par cans, but then you have to three whole punch every single one. I've just seen people with little filing cabinet type things. Just a small box with little folders/tabs and those are labeled with what gel is in there.

The cinebag thing does work, but it just sorta sucks finding things because they're never organized in terms of strength. Works a lot better when you have 3-4 of them, CTB, CTO, ND, and diff.

The PVC pipe thing seems to be what everyone does, the only problem with it though, is it takes up so much room. People often times have a cart that is pretty much dedicated to gels/expendables. What I've seen done is descending pieces of PVC pipe with upward cuts in them. Each of them is labeled with a label maker of what goes in there, I think it would also be nice to color coat them. Each row is slight bigger size gels as well. Maybe 6" 10" 18" 24"...and just keep going up, maybe have something else for kinos....

Since you probably don't have a 10 ton to put this awesome cart on, what I might suggest instead is a few milk crates with the same idea. Just simplify it a little bit and maybe just have 1/4, 1/2, and full CTO, CTB, and then opal, 250, 216.
