Gel kit/set for matching daylight and light effects?

Hi all- I have two questions regarding gels. I ordered a couple Lowel DP lights (3000K bulbs I think) with barn doors to use for still photography and video. I'd like to have the ability to gel them to match my daylight balanced (7100K) flouorescent softbox units.

Second question: I'd like to be able to gel these for a "strong spot" color effect for gun shots.

Can you all give me some suggestions for daylight correction gel sets and color effect gel sets?

Thanks!

You'd need to get (colour temperature blue) to cool down the 3000k lights or CTO (colour temperature orange) to warm up the softbox lights. They come in strengths of 1/4 1/2 and full. (varying thickness).

not sure what you mean by strong spot?

Passing on what I learned from David Mullen...

Gelling tungsten (3200K) to daylight (5600K) does not work well. The full CTB (correct to blue) costs 2 stops of light.

This means your 1000W light becomes a 250w. It's half and half again. This is not very efficient.

One strategy is to gel half way, so that your 1000W becomes a 500. This combined with correcting sunlight with 1/2 correct to orange (CTO) gel on windows is a good strategy.

Another strategy is to gel windows with full CTO and ND (neutral density) of .9 or so. They make rolls of this stuff, and the price is reasonable for what it lets you do. If you gel windows CTO and ND combined, you can shoot tungsten light indoors and it will match.

Moving the lights outdoors in daylight is a whole other world of hurt.

That's why they get big bucks for daylight balanced HMI ligihts.

There are many other types of lights, and some look good on paper. The CFL type generally have low CRI (color rendition index) which means they have color spikes. This means it messes with your colors. Higher CRI bulbs are available for a premium, but they still are not 100% like sunshine.

Sometimes good enough will have to do. If the project warrants renting the professional lights, then so be it.
