Rigel is a Blue supergiant, not a white dwarf. A white dwarf is basically a super dense star-core left behind from a dead star - a star that no longer has the energy for fusion. Not to be confused with Red Dwarf:

you really want to scramble your brain, do some reading on Black Holes and time dilation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_holes

A natural outcome of relativity, but even Einstein thought they were so weird, they couldn't really exist.

Kip Thorne has a great book on them.

Then move on to Quantum Mechanics, which will make you think you are insane :)

I took an astronomy class in college. It was one of my favorite classes I ever took. It was so interesting. However, it was also one of the most difficult. My brain was always in knots. In order to survive, not only did I read the assigned reading...it was probably the 1 and only time I have every read a science text book from cover to cover. 700+ pages.

If you count the number of times I had to re-read what I just read to understand what I read in the first place it probably equated to a 1500 page book.

Makes ya feel a little insignificant, doesn't it?
Not really, has life been discovered on any of those planets? A huge planet by itself is just a big rock.

I always wonder how people percieve life on earth. I mean if we on this planet are the only living/intelligent organisms in the universe does that mean we are special or just a fluke?

if we are alone.... were a fluke.
Scientifically if we're alone we're special.
