Geared Heads!

Hey Guys,

I highly recommend visiting CineToys, the maker's of the GearNex, at NAB booth #C7338 between 4/12 - 4/15/2010 or FilmTools in Burbank and trying our updated model.

It's excellent that you guys are continuing to develop your head. I hope that I will in fact get to try it out. Australia is such a small market though especially for geared heads, I doubt I'll see one anytime soon !

Keep up the great work of improving though...

I have used the GearNex quite extensively, and demo'd it at a few trade shows in the UK. I found I got two types of people trying the head, both with different opinions.

I got quite a few experienced DOPs who were used to Panaheads/Arriheads and they made similar comments to above, gear ratios not fast enough, bit of backlash in the tilt.

I also got quite a few of newer guys who had never used a gearhead before, and they absolutely loved it.

I think your opinions and views of the Gearnex depends entirely on your experience of operating other heads. The Gearnex is very cost effective, and compact option, and with my practice, I found myself getting quite good and getting nice shots with the head. Bear in mind my hand-eye coordination is awful and it took me two weeks to train my brain to be able to reverse one wheel whilst not reversing the other.

I really can't wait to have a go with the updated head, as with any new products there are bound to be teething problems, but I am sure they will be fixed. The engineering behind the head is very good, and I am confident once the little problems are worked out, the Gearnex, with a bit of getting used to, will behave just like any other gearhead.

Will have a go at NAB and see what I think, hopefully our UK demo unit will get the upgrade, and I can't wait to try it out on a shoot once the changes have been made.

Pete.

Thanks Pete for your feedback, we look forward to seeing you at our booth C7338 at NAB and hearing your thoughts of our updated GearNex Geared Head.

Thanks John for appreciating all the hard work, sleepless nights and money we have spent to make it better. It's nice to hear.
