Geared head

I have used the Arri head 2 and the Panavision Geared heads and I love the control that I get by spinning handles for pan and tilt. Smooth, clean pans and tilts.

Now I have been on the search for something for HDV cameras but alas to no avail. The closest I see is the Arca Cube ( http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/accessories/arca-cube.shtml ).

But this lacks the large sterring-wheel type controls that I like. Has anyone seen or heard of such a beast?

Gearedheads are critical to the look/feel of most feature films and most high-end ads/tvshows/music videos. They are rock steady/still during and especially at the begining and ends of pans/tilts, and they are HEAVY so they can move around fully loaded 35mm film rigs (incl. giant 10:1 zooms + 6x6 matte boxes + filters + 1,000ft mags, + follow focus + video assist, etc) with perfect precision.

They are also tough to use alone, b/c unlike a fluid head, you can't use one hand to follow focus or zoom (or both). The arri heads and pana heads are so extremely well designed and engineered that it would seem a low priority to duplicate them. When you need one, rent one, or pick up a used Technovision or Mini-Worral if you must own.
