Gattaca

Re: Gattaca

Definately.

A wonderful movie and very sci fi with not a lot of need for sci fi effects, sets, etc

Re: Gattaca

Yeah, it's a terrific movie...one of my favorites. I was browsing the triggerstreet.com forums and there was a discussion about Gattaca. One person said it was a bad script, the other said it was a good script that was filmed badly. Bah.

whatever....

the only thing i didnt care for in the movie was the old detective dude...thought he was miscast.

it was shot beautifully...they used a bunch of the same locations that were used in THX 1138. i love the minimalist/retro production design. and the sort of film noir camera style. great stuff!

Re: Gattaca

Underated. Not just a killer Sci-fi film but a killer film period. My only beef (a small one) is the pacing and mood of the picture. I felt it a little slow at times when I'd rather have some 'chresendo/dechresendo' (Spell that one jeez).

I like the Hawk Man and Jude was great.

Re: Gattaca

Haha...why would anyone take the time to write that? Although the Pastor joke at the beginning did make me laugh a bit...

Re: Gattaca

Odd, innit?

But after wading through cookie-cutter screenplays for a year, it was a refreshing change.

Re: Gattaca

This is one of my favorite films of all time. I've seen it probably (not exaggerating) around 40 times. I haven't watched it probably in about a year, but I was totally obsessed with it for a while. And the music is so amazing that you have to buy the CD and drive with it playing in during the morning sunrise. A totally amazing movie.

Re: Gattaca

One of my favorite, too.

And certainly the most realistic movie about our future... :'(

I just have to ask how you know that.

Re: Gattaca

Yes, I agree it's under rated.

It's especially cool since I work right next to the Marin Civic Center where much of it was filmed. It's an awesome building.

Glassblowerscat,

Just my opinion...

I don't know how it works in Usa but I think this is the same situation as here...

Here, if you want a bank credit (for a house for example), you have to prove that you're in a good health. If they have a doubt
they ask you to make a full check-up and ask you very intrusive question about your genetics history.
"Is you father..."
"Is your mother..."
"And what about your grand parents ?"

Or

We have statistics about your "physiological category" and we think you have x% to have an cancer and so on.

For insurances company, it's the same things.

For criminals there is already a dna database and i think our politicians will find soon a way to register all the population.

For our security... of course...

If I want to go to Usa or just have an transit to tahiti, I need to change my passeport and get a new one with biometrics data...

It's just a beginning...

And if I believe what happened in the recent past history of ma(n)dkind with science. We'll know a drift in dna use...

but it's just my opinion...

What about the area of mirrors ? I like the aesthetic of this scene with the sun raising.

Is it a real location or CG ?
