Gathering Local Business. Tactics?

Hey,

I don't know about how many of you are into the local commercial scene, but how would you say I should go about getting jobs.

Drop off a portfolio? Blind calling? Running after my works clients :evil: ?

I'm just wondering where I should start to find jobs.

.. you could try to work freelance for established ad agencies in the area and get jobs that you otherwise would not likely get. trying to do it on your own by starting your own company is rough. the possibility of working freelance takes all that away..if your good, and allows you to build a nice portfolio for when you are ready to try it on your own. on the side from frelance you can take whatever jobs you can through your own business and again if your good the word will spread and your contracts will get bigger and better with time.

I currently am building up a portfolio by working at an ad agency, but they don't mind if I do stuff on the side. So should I just solicit different businesses around town for freelance stuff?
